The Eagles stand in 4th place in our soccer league.  GO EAGLES!

Wednesday Oct. 3:      ” The Small Size Soccer Field did not take away from this Defensive Battle”

There was a warm breeze in the air and the sun was blazing as the Eagles of Emerson Waldorf looked to climb into third place in the CCAL(Central Carolina Athletic League) Soccer Standings with a win over the Camelot Academy Knights.     The first interesting aspect of the game was that the home team-Camelot Academy forgot to wear there white jersey’s so game play was paused in the middle of the first halve, while their AD-Paige Passavant passed out Camelot’s white penny jerseys-as to not confuse all of the players on the field. Once play resumed, this quickly into the battle which team had the better offensive attack and goalie. Colton, Matt, Erin, Emily, Louise and Ben did a GREAT job of  keeping the ball from away from the Emerson side of the net. Even with the early start time there were small crowds cheering on both sides.    Both goalie’s received a fair work out in the first half. Evan had 4 saves in the first halve, and the Camelot Goalie had 2. Evan finished with 9 saves for the game!!    Even after a second half of play-both squads turned up the intensity, and Colton led the team onto the field with our own version of the “Sparta Battle Cry”, hehe. Regular game time ended and the score was Camelot-0 and Emerson Waldorf-0.    Even two five minute halves for over-time could not determine a winner.  Everyone played very valiantly, and the new additions to the EW team Matt, Colton, and Louise were VERY MUCH NEEDED.  The Eagles stand securely in 4th place at 1 win, 0 losses, and 2 ties (1-0-2).

“Today’s Clash with Division Leader-Woods Charter at Old Cardinal Gibbons H.S. Soccer Field”

We all wondered if the rain clouds would hold off until after the game, and the clear skies held out for most of the game. I think there was a lot of anxiousness in the air, b/c everyone wanted to see how Emerson stacked up against one of the division leaders in the conference.  Sitting in attendance were Mr. Reilly, Mr. and Mrs. Frachtling, Mrs. Anne and Mr. Mandeville-and they would all be in for a strong showing by the Eagles of Emerson Waldorf!     The Wolves of Woods Charter were wearing their standard colors of Green, White, and Black. Once the soccer officials showed up-the game was underway. The game was a defensive match up most of the first half.  Emerson Waldorf even had two substitutes on hand for this game (Emily and Colton), and they were VERY MUCH NEEDED! Every time Emerson substituted one player-Woods Charter would counter that with 5 players  brought into the game. The Woods Coach was impressive in his use of field strategy.  Woods made a pass to one of their right forwards, and she scurried past Colton and kicked a  dagger into the right side of the goal. Putting the Wolves of Woods Charter School up 1-0 going into halftime.  The second half, the intensity on offense which was not present in the first half-came out in the second half as Mitch, Matt, and Sarah had shots on goal. Each shot going wide left or wide right. Will Reilly played quite well at Center Mid. Woods second goal of the night came on a shot from midfield by a Woods kicker, and the shot ricocheted  off of the left bar on the long shot and flew into Emerson’s goal and put Woods up 2-0.     From game to game, any bystander can observe that the Eagles are coming together as a team. The two week break from soccer is coming at a great time because it’ll give the Eagles a chance to heal some bumps and bruises. Great effort displayed today Waldorf, and we have one conference game left before our CCAL Soccer Tournament. Enjoy your break guys and your class trip!
