Overview

Emerson Waldorf School is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1984. The school welcomes students of all races, colors, religions, national and ethnic origins, and from diverse family and economic backgrounds. We have programs that welcome families and students from birth to 12th grade.

Our School is designed to meet the needs of children with an average and above average range of intellectual, emotional, and physical needs who do not present severe or persistent learning differences or challenges. While our approach appears to offer benefits to students with learning challenges (education through multiple modalities and emphasis on art and music), it has been our experience that the children who thrive in our environment are those who enjoy learning, do well in a auditory learning environment, are responsive to artistically rendering what has been presented orally in the lessons, can work independently and in groups, and can accept responsibility. For 2012-2013, the Emerson Waldorf School will continue to accept applications, if there is space in the desired class. Contact the Director of Admissions for more details for late applications.

For 2013-2014, the Emerson Waldorf School will be accepting applications starting September 1, 2012. Our application deadline is February 8, 2013. We will continue to accept applications after February, as space allows. Please complete a Finanical Aid application for Tuition Adjustment at the same time as you complete an enrollment application, if you require financial support.  Nursery-12th grade applicants will be scheduled to visit their classroom from January to May.

Our age cut-off date is June 1st, although occasional exceptions are made for grades 4 and above. A child must be…

  • 2.5 and potty trained by the start of school for Nursery
  • 4 by September 1st for Kindergarten
  • 6 by June 1st for First grade
  • 7 by June 1st for Second grade
  • 8 by June 1st for Third grade

The admissions process begins when you contact the school. Our Director of Admissions is available to provide information about Waldorf Education and can help support you through our 5 Step Admission Process. You may also request an information package about Waldorf Education and about the Emerson Waldorf School (although we prefer for you to schedule a visit and receive an Admissions Packet when possible).

We encourage inquiring families, particularly those who are unfamiliar with Waldorf Education, to take the time to watch our Open House Video. Emerson Waldorf is not just a school for your child – it is a community for your family, as well.

To build a culture and environment within our classes and our school community that honor the values and goals of the Emerson Waldorf School, parents and teachers are asked to make a commitment to cooperate in a climate of good faith and mutual respect, and to strive to develop a deeper understanding and support of the principles of Waldorf Education that will, in turn, support the development of a healthy child and will maintain a vibrant community.

For parents, this will mean participating and volunteering in school activities, such as class parent evenings, festivals, educational workshops, and fundraising. It may also mean adjusting some lifestyle choices to honor the school’s values and to ensure their child has a successful experience at our school.
