International Visiting Students

Our High School welcomes visiting students from Waldorf Schools in other countries for periods of 1 month-1 academic year.

Application Process

To apply, please contact admissions@emersonwaldorf.org.   The visiting student will be required to pay an application fee, fill in an application form, submit his or her most recent end-of-year reports and recommendation letters from the Class Teacher and English Teacher, and participate in an interview by telephone.

Once a student is accepted, it is necessary to apply for a student visa to visit the USA.  It is recommended that students apply well in advance, as the visa application may take several months, and we only offer a limited number of places for visiting students each year.

Program

International Visiting Students participate fully in all the programs offered at the High School except foreign languages.  While other students study German or Spanish, our Guest Students use the extra time to work on their homework, or improve their English.   Extra English tutoring may be required, at the student’s expense.

Tuition/fees

International Visiting Students are charged our standard fees, pro-rated according to the length of time they will visit us, as well as any additional charges such as book fees, field trip fees and after-school sports fees.

Accomodation, Insurance and Transportation

Unfortunately, we are unable to arrange accomodation or exchanges. However, we do have families in our school community which enjoy welcoming international students into their homes, and we can help put students in contact with these famliies.  It is customary for visiting international students to pay their host family a stipend for room and board.

All International Visiting Students are required to have full medical insurance, and are responsible for their own transportation to and from Chapel Hill.
