Hours:    8:30 am-3pm.  Early drop-off and extended care available at extra cost.

Price:  $200 per week, except Pre-School Magic camps which are $120.

Emerson Waldorf Summer Camps 2009

Week I, June 22-26

Nature Gnomes and Fairy Homes, ages 6-8

Exlore the wonders of the forest through imaginary play, story, arts, crafts and song with EWS after- school teacher/artist/singer-songwriter, Shannon O’Connor. We’ll make small treasures with felt and wool, paint and draw and generally make merry!

Pre-School Magic, ages 4-6

Crafts and artistic activities, nature walks, indoor and outdoor play, dress-up, acting, water play, storytelling and puppet shows for the pre-school child

Week II, June 29-July 3

Fort-making, Huts and Woodland Habits, ages 6-8

Have fun in the EWS forest while learning from the animals and each other as we create tee-pees, huts and forts of all sizes with Shannon O’Connor  Let your imagination dwell in a group-made debris hut, or magical, miniature homes created for fairies and gnomes.

Puppetry Express, ages 10-12

Build a collaborative, interactive art team as you create wonderful puppets on a large scale. Express and project parts of yourself that are usually hidden into 3-D shadow puppets Use your whole body and community spirit.   We’ll create performances for each other and a special friday matinee for parents at 3pm.  UNC art graduate and Paper Hand Puppeteer, Abi Wilson leads the way.

Pre-School Magic, ages 4-6

Crafts and artistic activities, nature walks, indoor and outdoor play, dress-up, acting, water play, storytelling and puppet shows for the pre-school child.

Week III, July 6-10

Native American Traditions, ages 6-8    FULL!

Come join our tribe!  Circle up, give thanks and sing!    We’ll play tracking and skill games, create beadwork, pinch pots and medicine shields  and weave stories and songs reminiscent of Native American Traditions with Waldorf Alum and EWS rising 8th grade teacher, Victoria Flynn and EWS Kindergarten teacher Patricia Cornell. 

Clay Creations, ages 6-8

Spend a week squishing your hands in cool clay to make beautiful creations form the earth!  Learn the fun basics of this ancient art:  pinch pots, coil pots, animal sculptures, nature imprints and more with Waldorf alumni, parent and artist, Candor Plaza.

Printmaking for Everyone, ages 10-12

Practice different types of this long-lasting art form to explore different ways of looking at images and reproducing them.  Enjoy stenciling, linoleum block prints, mono-printing, sun printing and more with UNC Art graduate, Abi Wilson

Basketball Intensive, ages 10-17   FULL (unless you have your own transportation to St. Mary’s)

Go off campus with EWS Games teacher, Whitney MacDonald.  This will be a fun, energetic way to build skills, team leadership and commradery and PLAY BALL!  (enrollment: up to 20) For this off-campus camp, students may ride the EWS bus with Coach Whitney McDonald to St. Mary’s School in Hillsborough. The bus for this camp will leave EWS at 8:35am prompt and return to EWS for lunch at 12:30. Basketball students then have the option of joining the Printmaking Camp till 3pm, otherwise, pickup will be at EWS at 1:00

 Week IV, July 13-17

 Camp Camelot, ages 6-8

Gather round Knights and Ladies!  Imagine the forest as your kingdom.  Turn the playground into a castle and act out legends of wisdom, heros and adventure with the magical EWS rising 3rd grade teacher, Shannon Wiley.

Games Galore, ages 8-10

Enjoy exercise and a week of fun with cross-cultural games brought to you by Candor Plaza.  Jump into old time favorites such as Capture the Flag, Relay Races, 3 Legged Races,  Waterballon Toss, and MORE!  Explore new favorites from around the world that encourage cooperation, and team building.

Sports Camp, ages 10-13

A week of Vollyball, Soccer, Basketball and MORE!

Week V, July 20-24

Found Art, ages 6-8

Learn to find beauty and creative potential in any object from the world around you.  Explore natural and human-made materials as you gather, re-use, recycle and transform trash into treasure with UNC Art graduate, Abi Wilson.

All the World’s a Stage, ages 10-14

Have fun in the sun and spend a week in our woodland Hinoki Theater with outdoor sport and acting enthusiast, Ian Ostrowski.  Play!  Act!  Pretend and craft a small, structures show out of the improvisational games and practices performed throughout the week.

Sci-Fi and Fantasy Worlds, ages 12-15

Engage yourself in the art of storytelling and writing with EWS teacher and parent, Shannon Wiley.  Create a large, group story and individual works.  Learn skills to build communication, suspense and the vision of a new world.   

Week VI, July 27-31

Stories of Wonder, ages 6-8

Dream up a dragon, a princess, a spell or enchantment.  Draw, dance and act out all kinds of magical tales with EWS teacher and storyteller,  Shannon Wiley.  Learn to rhyme in funny ways, and illustrate your very own story.

Herbal Magic, ages 8-10

Enjoy fun and challenging scavenger hunts for native plants and create home-made, organic lotions, soaps and salves with scientist, herbalist and EWS Mom, Tina Stevens.
