Social Inclusion: Preventing the Cycle of Bullying and Teasing

Bullying is the biggest school problem for kids ages eight to fifteen but can begin in subtle ways in younger years. The purpose of this series is to support social resiliency in our children. We will be learning practical parenting skills and also beginning a study of understanding and promoting tolerance. The Social Inclusion series will begin Thursday, October 27th at 7-9pm and continue November 3, 10, and 17  Thursday mornings from 9-11am.

While schools can do a lot to work through situations of teasing, parents can be very effective in giving their children some age appropriate simple strategies to avoid being caught up in the destructive cycle of teasing and bullying.

In this series we will explore how parents can…

•    Bring greater balance into their family to deal with the fast paced life style that has become for so many “the new normal”
•    Create calmer and more resilient children who can break the cycle of reactivity
•    Break the cycle of teasing or being teased if it has already started
•    Prevent their child teasing or being teased
•    Move from being isolated to building friendship

These strategies will be presented in a step-by-step format that is simple and very effective in most situations of teasing and bullying. The child feels…

•    “I am safe and being listened to.”
•    “This is not going to get me into trouble.”
•    “This is not some weird adult idea.”
•    “I am going to be able to do this at school on my own without anyone knowing my parents are helping me.”
