Senior Profiles

 

trevor

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 7th grade. 

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I decided to build a tree house. It is located in between two big oak trees right by my house.

  • College Commitment: I have committed to play basketball at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania.

  • Anticipated College Major: Sports Management

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Have a great start to a great college basketball career. Continue to excel academically, and eventually play professional basketball.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? Receiving scholarships to further my passion at the next level.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Be patient and just enjoy the moments you are experiencing now. For in good and bad, there is always something to learn.

 

Nilamani

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 9th grade.

  • Senior Project: Creative expression through poetry and art.

  • College Commitment: Durham Tech

  • Anticipated College Major: Business & Economics

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I would like to get my associates degree in business, hopefully transfer to NC state. While maintaining my creativity in music, art, and poetry.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Experience as much as you can! Also, 9th grade was the hardest and it gets easier, not the other way around.


 

Yael

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 10th grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I decided to create a short documentary about my home country, Haiti.

  • College Commitment: George Washington University

    Anticipated College Major: Communications

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I want to travel a lot in the future and will hopefully have a career that will align with those goals.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am most proud of completing my documentary.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? I would say to not be afraid of having big goals and dreams not only in high-school but in everything in general. If you have this thing that you really want to do, then just do it, whether it be learning a new instrument or starting your own business… I think that high school is a really good time to find more of your interests and simply starting new things.

 

Venu

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in Kindergarten.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I created a 12x12 coffee table photo book displaying my photography work throughout high school. I also focused on starting a photography business.

  • Plans for next year: To take a gap year.

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I plan to travel next year and focus on building my photography portfolio and improving my skills.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am very proud of completing my senior you project.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Appreciate your senior year and your time at the school. Spend as much time getting closer with your class and the teachers because it’s your last opportunity. Live in the present.


Trey

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 6th grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I painted a full scale mural in one of the rooms of our high school.

  • College Commitment: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

  • Anticipated College Major: Undecided but considering Creative Writing, Film, Journalism, Visual Arts

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I plan to commit my time to several personal projects, through writing a novel, learning game development, and putting myself out into the world as a creator.

  • What accomplishment at EWS are you most proud of? Publishing my own book in high school.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? You yourself are the most important human being on Earth. Allowing time for yourself to ponder and discovering who you really are will bring you the most satisfaction in life.


Hudson

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at Emerson when I was in 5th grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I designed, programed, and built a thrust vector controlled drone.

  • College Commitment: Worcester Polytechnic Institute

  • Anticipated College Major: Robotics Engineering

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Join rocket club and robotics club, make new friends, and study abroad.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am really proud of how well i did academically.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? You will never have as much free time as you do now, so experiment with your time: find new hobbies, join clubs, look for internships, and try and find something that you both enjoy and can be profitable for a job. Now is the best opportunity you have to experiment with what you want to do with you life, don’t squander it.


Amziel 

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 10th grade.

  • Senior Project: In accordance with a long held dream of my mind, I spent this year working on creating a graphic novel. The story that I eventually came up with is one that incorporates the whimsical nature of traditional fairy tales, weaving in themes of queer friendships, hidden magic and eventual loss. The journey I have had in starting to create this has given me insight into not only what it means to work with this medium, but also what I need in my practice as an artist and a writer, along with a chance to explore what and who inspires me.

  • College Commitment: Guilford College

  • Anticipated College Major: Creative Writing

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Mostly I wanna be able to tell stories across any number of mediums that strike my fancy, all whilst helping in the many fights for positive change in the world. Also I don’t wanna worry about money ever again. I feel like that would be nice.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? Apparently when one of the younger grades was talking with a teacher they said I was best dressed at the high school. That is exactly the kind of thing I want people know me by.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Finding ways to advocate for yourself and others in the classroom is one of the most important things you can do, for me it was got me through it all because even when things didn’t work out in my favor at least I knew that all parties were aware of the issue.


Lola

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in Kindergarten. 

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I chose to do creative expression through art. I studied street art / graffiti and used that as my inspiration to create a sculpture that could speak to each individual differently.

  • College Commitment: Queens University of Charlotte

  • Anticipated College Major: Business

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Meet new people, and strengthen relationships. Travel abroad and put myself in positions to grow as a person. Push myself everyday to learn new things. Be productive with my time, and always believe in myself.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? Being accepted into my dream school. The great friendships I have made along the way. How hard I have worked to get to where I am today, and always being true to myself through everything.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Follow your heart, and do what makes you happy. Don’t let other people’s judgments of u control who you are. Everything works out the way it’s supposed to. Your journey is just beginning.


PARKER

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 1st grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I made a podcast.

  • College Commitment: Durham Tech

  • Anticipated College Major: Business & Marketing

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? To finish college and have fun!

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? Listening to all of Donda Deluxe.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Value the present more than the future.


Naf’tali

  • When did you start at EWS? I have been at EWS since 10th grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I created a tabletop RPG.

  • College Commitment: Durham Tech

  • Anticipated College Major: Culinary Arts

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I'm going to get my drivers license and save up to buy a car.


Stella

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 1st grade.

  • College Commitment: Salem College in Winston-Salem

  • Anticipated College Major: Criminology & Psychology

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I plan on starting a new journey, making friends, traveling, and connecting more with the world around me.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? Getting a full ride merit scholarship to Salem.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Ask for help. Teachers are here for you. You don’t have to do it alone. Focus on the real friendships you have and hold onto the people you love


MICHAEL

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in the nursery.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I created a 30 beat mixtape.

  • College Commitment: Durham Tech

  • Anticipated College Major: Kinesiology/ Auto Mechanics

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Get money, make music, and go to school.


NICOLAS

  • When did you start at EWS? I started at EWS in 7th grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, I looked at all the modifications that could be done to my car engine and used calculus to find the perfect rod length to stroke ratio with the goal being high revs.

  • College Commitment: Durham Tech

  • Anticipated College Major: Mechanical Engineering

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? Enjoy cars as much as possible and try to make a business out of them in what ever way I can.

  • What advice would you give to incoming 9th graders? Don’t procrastinate, it makes it hard for you and the teachers.


Misha

  • When did you start at EWS? I attended morning garden at EWS, went to Kindergarten at Eugene Waldorf School, and then returned to Emerson for 1st Grade.

  • Senior Project: For my senior project, Designed and installed a disc golf course on the Emerson Waldorf School campus.

  • College Commitment: UNC Asheville

  • Anticipated College Major: Philosophy, Environmental Studies

  • What are your goals, plans, and aspirations for next year and beyond? I intend to take a gap year in which I will be working on a permaculture farm in Maui as well as attending a Carpe Diem gap year adventure program.

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am not especially proud of any single accomplishment on its own, but I am proud of the person I am becoming. I am proud of the work that I have put into my education, my health, my friendships, and my growth as a human being. I recognize that this is not a destination accomplishment but an affirmation of the significance of my journey. I am proud of the path that I am walking on this earth which has only just begun.
