AT WHAT AGE DOES PRE-SCHOOL START?
We offer a weekly 2-hour parent-child class called Morning Garden for parents of toddlers (must be 2 by 9/1). Our preschool, which we refer to as "Nursery", is for children age 3. It is a mixed age 3 - 4 year old class. Our students enter our two year play-based Kindergarten program once they are age 4.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL AID?

DOES EWS ACCEPT THE NC OPPORTUNITy SCHOLARSHIP?
Yes! Submit an application for this scholarship if you meet the eligibility requirements. This scholarship is for 5-year-old Kindergarten students, rising 1st graders or 2nd graders, regardless of where they went to school prior, and any student currently attending a NC public school who would like to transfer to EWS.
WHAT IS THE EWS HOME AND SCHOOL MEDIA POLICY?
EWS requests that at home, parents keep their children as screen-free as possible when they are attending the Early Childhood and Grade School programs. The faculty prefer that if screens are available to these students that it is not on a school night and that it is age appropriate. There are no screens used on campus for these programs. There is no home media policy for High School students. High School students use screen technology as needed for their coursework during the school day.
DOES EWS USE WI-FI?
Yes. We do have wi-fi in the Admin, Grade School, and High School buildings.
DO YOUR STUDENTS DO WELL ON THE SAT AND ACT?
Yes! Our students perform competitively well. We have a 100% College acceptance rate.
DOES EWS HAVE A GYM FOR SPORTS?
No. Although we have a very strong athletic program, we do not have our own gym. We use the Hillsborough Recreation Center on Tryon Street for our Girls Volleyball Team and our Girls and Boys Basketball Teams. We do have a field that our soccer and ultimate frisbee teams use and we have a Cross Country trail for our middle school team.
WHAT IS THE EWS immunization policy?
At the Emerson Waldorf School, our students’ health and safety are always a priority and concern.
WHAT IS THE TRANSITION LIKE FOR A STUDENT WHO HAS BEEN IN PUBLIC SCHOOL?
Any student changing schools, of course, encounters an adjustment period. Transitions can sometimes take an older child longer. However, because Waldorf Education speaks so directly to the children’s experience and developmental level, students assimilate comparatively quickly when they transition into a Waldorf school. Our admissions process, faculty, friendly students, and warm community life provide support to each new student.
How does EWS serve students with learning needs and differences?
Our school has limited resources for meeting specialized needs. However, we are willing to meet with families to assess whether we are able to meet the needs of any child with special requirements. Applicants for admission with a diagnosed learning disability and/or a current IEP will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine if EWS is able to serve and support the student to the level at which they need to thrive and flourish.
